DJ and producer Marques Wyatt is a West Coast house legend whose decades-strong DEEP club night was foundational in building Los Angeles’ dance scene. Over the last few years, Wyatt has also expanded the club into the wellness realm with his regular meditation-yoga-dance events known as DEEP Exhale. He’s assembled this Apple Music Fitness mix to reflect that hybrid experience. “Music is the backbone of my workout regimen and pretty much everything else,” he tells Apple Music. “It’s my life force.” Here, in his own words, Wyatt tells us more about his set:
“My intention of this mix was to lure the listener into movement and travel around the world with me from Africa to the Middle East to the US and Mexico. I’m clearly a fan of the drums and percussion. I like to start my mixes out with a message that may resonate with listeners on some level and dance off what doesn’t belong while welcoming in what does. I practice kundalini and vinyasa flow yoga and breath work regularly. I would imagine this mix being used to get into your body, whether at the gym, a yoga session, or a good run. Maybe even find yourself rolling around the floor in a carefree dance with the ancestors.”
